How to Choose a Guy in 10 Days is the first of her newest series, the Chick Flick Club. With this series, she introduces us to a group of people who are devoted to each other. Our gal has her own posse of women, each determined to be accomplished in their own careers.
We meet Gemma Jones
who is a stylist with a company that is geared to go into an overdrive expansion with new investors' money. An opportunity for promotion comes Gemma's way and she jumps at it. Unfortunately, there is another contender and it becomes, game on.The problem is how these two co-workers are pushed to do a personal bet as to how the winner will win. After a heated discussion between the women and independent friend, it is decided each woman chooses a dreadful example of the style for the other... and then the lifestyle makeover will happen in 10 days.
Zach Morrison thinks he is living the life...He worked like a dog, putting in endless hours with his partner on an app...making it through all the times' people said it wouldn't work. Making through set back after set back... and even overcoming a relationship where he thought it was his safe place, only to be told, he wasn't enough. After all of that... these guys hit pay dirt and sold their company for an obscene amount of money.
So, yes, Zach is living the life...answering to no one, eating when and what he wants, doing any number of agreeable women and not having a care in the world...It should be perfection...But his crew of friends is after him to get a grip. Clean up his act and fumigate his apartment. He even is looking like a mountain man with a scraggly beard and grungy clothes.
Now, these two opposites happen to be neighbors and Zach's loud music, a revolving door of women and Hairy Big Footways irk Gemma beyond belief. After a couple of confrontations, neither are each other's fans.
But leave it to kismet because just when all of this bet/promotion stuff is happening, Zach is at Gemma's office helping the tech department with a glitch. Gemma's competition takes one look at Zach in all his Big Foot hairy glory and deems him Gemma's victim, I mean, client.
From the start, you know both of these two are going to connect in all the right ways... and it is the getting there which is all the fun. Assumptions are dispelled and insights are revealed as to the depth of each person. We have all of the "Pretty Woman" moments and in the end, we get the romance we crave. I can honestly say these two have lovely chemistry and when it clicks, it feels authentic.
Monroe provides a solid foundation for her series with all of her secondary characters. We get a taste of personalities and goals for each of them. The next book, You've Got Male, will focus on Zoey and it looks to be a blast.

When a promotion at work is dangled in
Gemma lives in an apartment block like thousands of other people in her city. The worst part about living in an apartment is the close proximity of neighbours. The one across the hall from her is the perfect example of an annoying neighbour. He doesn't seem to have a job, has a constant parade of women through his door, plays loud music and looks like he has no interest in personal hygiene. Gemma calls him 'Bigfoot' due to his excessive facial and body hair. When a promotion at work is dangled in front of her, she is determined to prove that she is up for the task. She needs to find a willing male subject to makeover. Not just in looks but his wardrobe and home too. A life makeover if you will. Zach aka Bigfoot is the perfect choice, now she just needs to convince him…
Zach is surprised to see his neighbour at his door, well surprised that she is not there to yell at him about his loud music. Gemma has a makeover proposition for him, to completely overhall his look and life. This earns her a slammed door in the face.
After some careful reconsideration, Zach finally agrees to letting Gemma work her magic. He has been stuck in a bit of a rut after a failed relationship and this is just the motivation he has needed to rediscover himself. Plus, Gemma is kind of cute, why hadn't he noticed that before?
Gemma is thrilled to get her hands on Zach, er I mean work with Zach and is surprised that she has never realised just how handsome he is, he really does scrub up well. This leads to a ridiculous amount of attraction towards him and when it is reciprocated she really enjoys mixing business with pleasure.
Zach knows he is doing this makeover thing for Gemma's job but has no idea that a promotion hinges on it. Gemma is freaking out about how will he feel when he realises that he is part of a bet because now that there are feelings involved the bet feels like second prize now that she has Zach. The longer she keeps it secret, the bigger the mess…
This author never disappoints me with her fabulous rom-com stories. This is the first in her new series, Chick Flick Club.

TBH, when Eden's and Zach's story was previewed in Lila Monroe's last book (Man Candy), I wasn't sure about it. But after reading the first few pages - I was hooked. It's definitely a page-turner. I read it through in one sitting. I devoured and finished at 2 am. I do not regret anything, even though I ended up having a red eye.

The who idea of the storyline is great in this one, and all the secondary characters were lots of fun as well.

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is one of my favorite romantic comedies, so I saw the synopsis of this book and thought it would be fun. I was not disappointed.Gemma is a stylist and is up for a big promotion at her job - if she can do a makeover on a guy. She and her co-worker make a bet to see who can do the best makeover and win the promotion, and Gemma gets to pick her co-worker, Arielle's man, and Arielle gets to pick Gemma's - and she picks her hairy, bigfooted neighbor, Zach.
Gemma has the impression that Zach is unemployed - which is true, but not the whole story. It turns out that Zach is coming off a bad relationship and is somewhat jaded when it comes to love. At first, he is reluctant to get a make over, but he soon realizes he's been in limbo for a while, so agrees to it, and the change is quick and amazing.
I'm going to put it out there - I HATED Arielle. She was a really awful character.
So I'm sure you can assume that some drama happened when Zach found out about the bet. But it resolved nicely and quickly.
While the next two books are about Gemma's two friends, I hope we will continue to see Zach's friends Martin, Julie and Brody. I loved his friends so much, especially Julie and Martin.
If I had one complaint, it would be that I didn't love the ending. There was no epilogue and I felt the book had no closure. We got a sneak peek at Zoey's book, so maybe we'll get some closure for Zach and Gemma in that book.
I did enjoy this book. There were some laugh out loud moments and I liked the characters. I would recommend this book.

Fun, flirty, with the perfect amount of humor and sexual tension, this book's enticing storyline and unforgettable characters make it not only entertaining but heartwarmingly romantic!
After the very brief glimpse of HTCAGITD we get at the end of Man Candy, I couldn't WAIT to read it! Gemma and Zach's quirky and antagonistic neighborly "relationship" was just downright delightful. Their combative banter and seemingly polar opposite lifestyles infuse the story with wit and playfulness. The energetic connection between them sparks off the pages, eliciting a powerful intrigue and intimacy that thoroughly engages the reader from start to finish. And the transformation their relationship takes from enemies to friends to lovers was entirely smooth and seamless, matching the progression of the storyline flawlessly.
This fresh and lively new Chick Flick Club Series is one I'm super excited to continue reading! If the next books in the series are even remotely as fantastic as How to Choose a Guy in 10 Days, then I know I'm in for an entertaining and laugh-out-loud treat. If you're new to Lila Monroe's books, then there's never been a better time to start reading than NOW!
A definite 5 star must read that does not disappoint!

Zach, oh man, this guy...when it's revealed what he went through my heart totally broke for him. He's loving, handsome and so caring. Going through what he did sheltered him from living the life he should and when he finally sees that my heart quickly mended. That guy deserves all the good things in life and then some.
Seeing these two and their interactions was down right freaking beautiful. The humour they both share and their banter made my sides hurting from laughing, I absolutely adored these two so damn much.
Being a lover of the film How To Loose a Guy in 10 days, I just KNEW I had to read this and boy, it was so much more than what I hoped for in the beginning. My expectations were quickly smashed at the very start of this book because this author just slayed this whole damn thing, just wow.
This is my first read from this author and certainly won't be my last. It's been an absolute honour being able to read this beauty and now I just want more.

Of all the contemporary rom-coms I've been reading lately, this is by far my favorite. The story is light, fluffy, and sexy, and the writing is so readable and fun. I never wanted to put it down. Gemma and Zach had so much chemistry, and they also had a surprising amount of depth. Monroe crafted well-developed characters (Gemma volunteers at a charity helping women get back into the workforce, and Zach is recovering from a failed marriage) while still keeping the tone of the book light. What happens when a writer mixes two less than friendly neighbors, a competition between archenemies, and a frat boy living techie who's not concerned with appearances because he's all about living his lazy lifestyle together in a romantic comedy….Well, what readers get in Lila Monroe's How To Choose a Guy in 10 Days is a hilarious, witty, and sexy read that will have them swooning and laughing out loud over the antics and sexual tension that exists between Gemma Jones and Zach Morrison, and when the final page is read, they'll be ready to dive into another one of Monroe's steamy and funny reads or headed to their television in order to watch a romantic comedy come to life on the screen.
First of all, I think it goes without saying that I'm a proud member of the Chick Flick Club; all romance readers are due to their need to witness two people fall in love and live happily ever after, even if the characters loathed each other at the beginning or simply turned their friendship into something more. We need the swoon…we need the steam…we need to revel in first love or forever love, whatever it may be, because, regardless if it's escapism in its purest form, these stories give readers all the feels and there's a sense of hope and contentment in every happy ending.
While the premise and storyline are a tad predictable in How to Choose a Guy in 10 Days, Lila Monroe's ability to infuse her own blend of humor, snark, and shenanigans changes the story's dynamics in a way that makes it original, and the fact of the matter is who doesn't love a good romcom…there's just something about a feel good story that includes passion and chemistry that make readers and moviegoers come back time and time again to experience the exact same feelings they get after reading/watching a humorous love story.
Gemma and Zach's story is one entertaining read, and the way Lila Monroe crafts their journey takes readers through the ups and downs, highs and lows of not only their individual lives and what they've experienced and endured, but also what seems to be brewing just below the surface between these two because what begins as mutual hatred quickly turns to mutual attraction and then springboards into something neither of them saw coming but are now unwilling to let go of, even if a few details are left out that would explain why Gemma befriends her 'hairy manwhore' neighbor in the first place.
I can't tell you how fun this story was to read, and with the title of book two, YOU'VE GOT MALE, I can't wait to see what Monroe has in store for Zoey because I imagine it will be one epic adventure of hilarity, drama, and sexiness.

How to Choose a Guy in 10 Days is Lila Monroe's latest release and is a fun and romantic rom-com perfect for readers who love romances bubbly and humourful.
Stylist Gemma Jones is competing for the promotion of a lifetime. Up against a fellow colleague, all she needs to do is completely make over a style-poor individual to win a bet. Easy, right? Wrong! When her competition picks Gemma's hairy, manwhore next door neighbour as her client, Gemma knows she'll have her work cut out for her. After the breakup from hell, Zach Morrison has been happy wallowing in booze and women. He's happy to sit around in sweat pants all day and sleep on a mattress on the floor of his apartment. After cashing in his tech company, it's not like money is a problem. Which is why he has absolutely no interest in being Gemma's makeover project, even if he does secretly love riling up his smart mouthed neighbour. Gemma is determined to give Zach a fresh new look, as much for him as for her, but as the beard comes off and the abs come out, Gemma quickly realises there's more to Zach than the worn clothing and attitude; he's actually a good guy, one she may just be falling for…..
How to Choose a Guy in 10 Days caught my attention with its title, a play on the movie How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. As a lover of the movie I have to say my interest was piqued but as soon as I begun reading the novel I found myself falling in love with it entirely based on its own merits. How to Choose a Guy in 10 Days is such a fun and flirty novel that really is effortless reading. It's light but engaging and features a bubbly heroine and a grumpy (in the beginning!) love interest who undertakes a very entertaining makeover.
Written primarily through Gemma's perspective with a chapter here and there from Zack's POV thrown in for good measure, How to Choose a Guy in 10 Days is a neighbours to lovers tale perfect for romance lovers like myself. Gemma is a vibrant but kind person at her core. She lives for changing her clients lives one outfit at a time and her fun nature shines through throughout the story. She's easy to follow and get behind while Zack is sexy in his own way.
Gemma and Zack have lovely chemistry and suit each other well. The light banter between them and the fun times they share build their relationship to its physical point which is neither overbearing or too little; it was just sexy. Solid sex scenes, moments of sweetness and hilarity within their relationship make their romance fun.
As the beginning of a series called Chick Flick Club that is set to feature Gemma's friends Zoey and Eve who we meet in this first instalment, How to Choose a Guy in 10 Days is a light but enjoyable rom-com. Worth reading; I'll be keeping my eye out for Zoey's tale but next!

As I got reading, I also fell in love with the characters Gemma and Zach. Gemma's life is very much like Devil Wears Prada as she works for a stylish firm helping others with personal makeovers. Gemma and a work colleague are faced with a dilemma when a promotion comes up which only one can receive. They form a bet to give a desperate guy each a serious makeover and have their boss judge the result - the winner gets the promotion. Gemma ends up being paired with her Bigfoot neighbor Zach. Underneath his tough exterior and lumberjack outfits are a GQ Model in the making and Gemma is going to help him whether he likes it or not. These two are about to learn a whole new side of one another as they go from feuding neighbors to potential romance buddies. I also really liked this book as it shows that looks can be deceiving and you can never fully judge someone by their outfit choices as underneath their horrible dress sense - they may very well be billionaires or have big hearts.
Will Gemma and Zach get their HEA Chick Flick ending or will the Bet ruin both their happiness and the past ten days be for nothing?

I've heard so much about how what a great author Lila Monroe is and I was excited to read this book. I can definitely see what all the hype is about. However, her neighbor cannot know that it is a competition.
Gemma and Zach do not start off on the right terms. He is rude and antagonist towards her. Gemma is a kindhearted soul that you cannot help, but love. Zach. . . well he is quite yummy with hidden depths. I loved both characters and watching their relationship evolve. The book is predictable, which I pretty much figured going into, but I enjoyed reading it.
This book also has awesome secondary characters - especially Martin, Jules, Zoey, and Eve. I am looking forward to the You've Got Male, book 2 in this series - Zoey's book.
To sum it up, this is a cute romcom with fun characters - main and secondary. The book is predictable, but very enjoyable with lots of humorous moments. It moves at a good pace and is a great first book in a new series.

Zach Morrison sold his tech start up company for millions, just days after his divorce was finalised, now he's enjoying cutting loose and relaxing, so what if that involves lots of ladies and not shaving or getting dressed or buying furniture for his apartment? Okay maybe he has taken things too far.
Zach reluctantly agrees to help Gemma but as they work together they discover they made some wild assumptions about each other.
I liked this but it was overly predictable. Of course Gemma is too shallow to see beyond the shaggy beard to the man beneath. Of course Zach is a millionaire but lives like a slob. Of course keeping the competition a secret from Zach is a bad idea. It was all a bit Pretty Woman except Zach got the makeover and he was a millionaire.
I think this is perfect beach reading, light-hearted and fun, easy to pick up.

With so much more to him under all the hair and loose fitting clothes!!
Zach is ready for a change, he's ready to stop wallowing over his past break-up and move on with his life. When his over bearing neighbour suggest's her plan, she becomes the swift kick he's needed.
Sparks begin to fly the more they see and know of each other. But can a relationship last when starting off on a lie albeit a small white lie!!
I'm looking forward to the rest of this fun series.

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review. There is no love lost between Gemma and her neighbor Zach. He calls her Emma and she secretly calls him Bigfoot. She thinks he is a cranky manwhore and he thinks she is a spoiled brat. They talk to each in complaints and sarcasm and can't stand to be around the other person.
But Gemma somehow convinces Zach to becomes the subject of a makeover that if deemed successful by her boss, could potentially lead to a big promotion. In the beginning Zach is quite uncooperative (of course!) and Gemma is not sure how she is going to accomplish what she needs to do. But then they both realize that the other person isn't who they thought they were and they are actually on an level playing field. And that's when things get interesting. And a bit sexy.
I loved these two! Once they could actually stand to be around each other, they were so adorable. Turns out Zach isn't as cranky as he seems to be and is actually a giant teddy bear. Gemma was a breath of fresh air in his life and that was something he didn't even know he needed. Gemma truly made over almost every aspect of Zach's life and in the best way possible.
This is a great enemies to lovers story and a good start to Lila's new series. It was a quick read for me that I found to be very entertaining and I can't wait to read about the rest of the Chick Flick Club!
...moreOh how I love this first book in the new series! Every gal needs their own chick flick club and tribe of friends that have your back and will help bury the bodies!
This story is about Gemma (who we met briefly in Man Candy) and Zach.
Gemma is such a sweetheart, always seeing the positive, but don't take that as weakness! She is strong and loyal and will fight with the best of them. She loves her friends and she tolerates her "Bigfoot" neighbor Zach, at least in the beginning.

Zach is recovering from his ex and is embracing his single life by living like he was in college. He kicks cleanliness and personal grooming to the wayside and embraces his nickname that Gemma bestows on him. He thinks he is over his ex, but is he? Read and see!
I love the humor in Ms. Monroe's stories! They are outrageously funny! Add to that the romance and off the charts steaminess and you get one helluva story!
Underneath all the hair and sloppiness of Zach beats the heart of a true romantic and with the help of Gemma, he finds it again.
The secondary characters are phenomenal and bring such humor and levity to the story! I cannot wait to see what comes of them as each new story comes out!
If you haven't read Lila Monroe, what in the heck are you waiting for?!? Go now and get this book, the start of her new series and I can guarantee you will be reading all of her books! I am!
...moreZach and his partner have achieved financial success and were finally able to
Gemma is a stylist who is vying for a promotion, but the only catch is she needs to find someone who is willing to undergo a makeover from needs improvement to heartbreaker. If that isn't bad enough her competition has chosen for her to makeover "Bigfoot" her neighbor who specializes in face hair and sweatpants. To make matters worse he has a talent for irritating her between his loud music and revolving door of women.Zach and his partner have achieved financial success and were finally able to market the app that they worked tirelessly on however along the way his ex decided that he wasn't good enough for her. He plans to enjoy his downtime by doing what he wants despite what his uptight neighbor thinks.
Once she finally convinces him to partake she realizes that there is much more to Zach than she expected both inside and out. Things heat up between them but how will he feel once he finds out why she is really doing it?
This author has a way of combining humor and heat into the perfect package and the secondary characters were great. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
...moreHe was a jerk for allmost all the book.
Let me point out what was wrong with him:
- He was rude to the heroine, Gemma ( since they are neighbors she complained to him for loud music while he was hooking up with a random woman and not only ignored her complains but still kept the music loud on purpose).
- He flirted and checked out other women ( he even took a phone number from another woman...how nice...)
- He goes camping with the hero I had a hard time with this book. My main issue: Zach, the hero.
He was a jerk for allmost all the book.

- He goes camping with the heroine. When they arrive at the camping site lodge he sees his ex wife and what does he do ? He literally runs away...hadn't Gemma caught up with him on the way to his car he would have left, leaving her alone at the camping site with no ways to return to the city...how charming
- Gemma convinces him to stay at the camping site; they discuss sleeping arrangements since they are sharing the same cabin but they are still not together at this point...so what does he propose ? The heroine should sleep on the couch while he could take the big bed...how chivalrous isn't he ?
- He showed no interest whatsoever in Gemma for at least half the book
- Let's get to breaking point of the book...you know the drama part where the couple splits apart for a couple of chapters...in this case the hero finds out about a bet Gemma took at the beginning of the book with one of her coworkers. I am not entering into many details here but he gets upset because he believes Gemma thought he was a loser at the beginning...uhmmm hello ?? Your house looked like a dumpster not even a college student would live in, you looked like a hairy beast because you refused to shave and basically to take care of yourself enough to entertain normal social relationships, you didn't care if you went out with flip flops or normal shoes and what you put on, you took women home every night and you didn't even remember their names the morning after...and you get upset if she thinks you are a looser ??? That's because you are you selfish jerk !!! The heroine should have left him wallowing in his self pity and just forget he existed.

I laughed so hard at times I swear my stomach felt like I had done over 100 crunches! And the heat...let me tell you, Gemma and Zach just burned up the sheets with their scorching chemistry! Their interactions with one another were always a lot of fun and full of desire I couldn't help but sigh and swoon over. This has got to be one of the most enjoyable rom-coms I have read so far this fall. Lila Monroe should win a freaking award for this new series because I think its gonna be a HIT!

...moreBut Gem
Zach and Gemma were hilarious. They were neighbors that were not the friendliest to each other. I wondered how these two will get together because their banter and run ins were funny. Then one day Zach finally gave Gemma the time of day and listened to a proposal she had of giving him a makeover. After her constant persistence he agreed. Gemma on the other hand was surprised he accepted but she didn't expect to find all those muscles and hotness underneath his beard and extra big clothes. But Gemma was keeping a secret and when things turned into more with her and Zach she didn't know how to tell him. But then things blew up. Zach already had trust issues and issues of not being a good enough because of an ex he reacted terribly. After everything was settled Zach realized that Gemma was different from his ex and the secret wasn't such a big deal.
Their friends were different but such a great group and very funny.

Gemma and Zach are neighbours and when Gemma seeks his assistance to gain a promotion at work, the sparks fly. Initially Zach refuses but after reconsidering he decides to allow Gemma to make him over.
This is the start of a fantastic story that will have you laughing out loud as well as cringing at times.
This is an excellent example of Romantic Comedy at it's finest and I recommend you one click ASAP, I don't think you will be disappointed.
Looking forward to more in the series.

And then my stomach gurgles loudly.
Zach pulls away, smiling. "Was that you, or a truck passing somewhere?"
Zach laughs. "Good to know. Hungry?"
